Team: Energy Systems

Nowadays different aircraft systems such as air conditioning, avionics, flight controls and in-flight entertainment have to be supplied by different forms of power (mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic). Multi-physical modeling and design methods allow for simulation and optimization of all diverse aircraft systems in one integrated model.

The energy systems are, in addition to the airframe and the power plants, a key element of any modern aircraft. They provide critical functions such as power supply, cabin pressurization and maneuverability on ground.

The underlying principles undergo a fundamental transition, though. Possibly, at the end of this development, no pressurized air will be extracted from the power plant and hydraulic systems may be eliminated. Instead, all energy systems will be driven electrically (“More Electric Aircraft”, “Power By Wire”).

The team Energy Systems works heavily on a range of integrated computer aided design and analysis tools, which support all design phases of future electrified energy systems.
