Background
Comet-chaser Rosetta Rosetta is the first mission to land on and explore a comet in close proximity over an extended period of time. This mission is intended to help scientists learn more about the origins and development of our Solar System and, in the process, to learn more about our own origins.
Detailed information about the history of the Rosetta Mission, the orbiter and the lander, their instruments, the origins of the comet and exploration of it can all be found in the Rosetta brochure.
The fact sheet on the Rosetta's Philae lander provide an overview of the contribution made by individual countries in the consortium.
