The DLR Institute for Software Technology supports and enables cutting-edge research at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) through highly advanced software solutions. In addition to its own fundamental research, the institute offers its expertise as a partner for projects in all areas of DLR: aerospace, transportation, energy, traffic, and security. At its core, the institute focuses on developing accessible open-source software and provides a wide range of training and consulting programs within the Helmholtz Association.
The current main research areas are:

The Intelligent and Distributed Systems department works on software engineering, develops challenging software solutions, and does research in scientific projects in the fields of software technology and data science.
Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Andreas Gerndt
Advanced virtual product development for e.g. space systems requires software-based tools to support the development process, interactive visualization methods for a reliable prototype and simulation analysis, and techniques for the design of robust on-board software. This department investigates and develops appropriate approaches by means of software engineering techniques.
