VESTEC - Online final workshop on February 23 and 24, 2022
Research institutions and companies from a large number of EU countries contribute their knowledge to the project "VESTEC - Interactive Supercomputing for quick decisions in emergency situations". VESTEC stands for Visual Exploration and Sampling Toolkit for Extreme Computing. It is a European-funded H2020 project for the assessment and management of urgent crisis scenarios using supercomputers and appropriate software solutions. The large-scale project is coordinated by the Institute for Software Technology of the German Aerospace Center (DLR).
With VESTEC, the project partners are developing a software solution for many areas in which urgent decisions are required despite a wealth of information. This is done on the basis of data records that are collected and evaluated in real time on supercomputers. VESTEC makes it possible to combine multiple data sources and efficiently extract essential functions. Thanks to interactive supercomputing, flexible and location-dependent planning is always possible. Time-critical phenomena can be accurately depicted by means of 3D visualizations of the evaluated data.
The software will be usable for a wide range of crisis and emergency situations. To develop a flexible and comprehensive tool, three different test scenarios were selected: wild fire monitoring and forecasting, risk analysis of mosquito-borne diseases, and the impact of space weather on Earth. These pilot scenarios will be presented and discussed in the final workshop with presentations and live demos. Exciting keynotes and a panel discussion round off the two-day workshop.
Participation in the online workshop is open to all interested and free of charge. Please register at vestec@dlr.de
