Aerospace research involves testing with models, but also extensive computer simulations. The simulation codes and visualization tools often run on different computer systems.
One of the core topics of the DLR Institute for Software Technology works on is the use of existing simulation tools and programs in distributed computer systems. This involves integrating simulation tools into a distributed component system. Creating components from existing codes and a framework for coupling them allows the continued use of existing codes in as-needed combinations. Modern middleware provides the basis for application distribution. The Institute for Software Technology is working on several projects of this kind.
Focal points are:
The topic "Integration of numerical application codes" was established as a central research area at DLR Lab "Simulation and Software Technology", as it was then called, with the development of the TENT integration system. Based on the experiences made with TENT in application projects, a follow-on system called RCE (Reconfigurable Computing Environment) has been developed using state-of-the-art software technologies.
