Workshop: Aircraft geometries with TiGL

The TiGL geometry library is a software to model 3D aircraft geometries from CPACS data sets. This workshop should bring you users and us developers of TiGL together. We want to show you new developments in TiGL and want to learn from how you use the software. In the last years, TiGL got many new features, which you might not be aware of. We understand that the traditional TiGL API can be too rigid for you. We now think that we have the solution that allows you to use TiGL as it should be: this is a new Python layer that allows you to access all the internal parts of TiGL, including all geometries and CPACS entities.

The new Python layer can be seamlessly used with the PythonOCC package – the OpenCASCADE kernel for Python. This enables you to do many new things, including mesh generation, computation of intersections, adding new geometries and much more. You can now even use TiGL to model arbitrary geometries with TiGL’s modeling algorithms like the Gordon surfaces.

Another feature of TiGL Viewer is the JavaScript console. You can write small scripts to perform automated tasks, e.g. creation of screenshots and videos or the conversion of CAD file formats. TiGL is an open source project hosted on Github. As such, you can download the source code, make local adaptations and build your own TiGL. We are planning the development of a TiGL SDK to make these steps as easy as possible.

This is just a rough sketch of what we intend to address in the workshop. Since this workshop is for you, the TiGL users, we are happy to receive also other ideas for the workshop.

  • Creating your own home-brew TiGL and how to contribute
    • Introduction to the TiGL
    • SDK TiGL Software Design Principles
    • Contributing via Github
  • Exchange of experiences / talk to the developers


Prerequisites

  • Basic Python knowledge

  • Familiarity to TiGL or the CPACS based design process

11th and 12th of September 2018. Agenda upcoming, starting roughly at 13:00 on 11.9., until 14:00 on 12.9.
