What we offer

DLR is concerned with many important and pioneering topics that arouse young people’s curiosity and enthusiasm for research and technology. At DLR_School_Lab Berlin these research topics are reflected in many experiments that are conducted by the students themselves in small teams. Short lectures and films tailored to their age level as well as a concluding feedback session round off their visit.

To arrange for the content of your visit we offer you a choice of various modules, each of which is designed for one day of experiments (ca. 9 am to 3 pm). An exception is the “Seeing with eyes and cameras” module for students in the 5th and 6th grades, which ends already at 1 pm. Alternative starting and ending times can be arranged. A visit can be limited to one day, or extend over two or three days and include several modules.

"Best of DLR" Module

The "Best of DLR" day of experiments is almost as varied as DLR itself. We can offer students a diversified mix of our exciting experiments tailored to the age level of the visiting group and selected from the DLR research fields of aeronautics, space, energy and transport.

"Seeing with eyes and cameras" Module

A diverse program selected from the fields of biology, optics and technology has been developed especially for young students. Emerging young scientists can discover what is necessary for seeing, how human eyes and digital cameras are constructed, and the functions of the various components.

"Energy" Module

Electricity comes out of a wall socket and gasoline from a filling station. That’s normal and obvious for children and young people. But this state of affairs depends on a complex energy infrastructure that is now in a phase of transition. Renewable energies are about to replace environmentally problematic energy carriers like coal, petroleum and nuclear power.

"Transportation" Module

Whoever thinks transport research is dull and boring is mistaken. It is directly related to real life situations and there are many everyday associations for young people. How and with what means do young people actually get around in the large metropolis of Berlin these days? How can traffic jams be avoided with the help of intelligent traffic light controls? And how can the fastest route to a destination be found with modern navigation systems? These and other fascinating questions are answered in the "Transportation" module by means of six different experiments.

"Space" Module

Experiments undertaken without the disruptive influence of gravity, monitoring Earth from space, or explore strange new worlds where no man has gone before – space activities are of key importance for numerous applications on Earth, and also utterly fascinating for many people. During a day devoted to “Space” experiments students can, for example have a 3D look at Mars and its gigantic craters, volcanos and dried up river beds, almost close enough to touch.
