More information

Probably everybody knows 3D movies from cinema. But how are they connected with the planet Mars? Since 2003, the space probe "Mars Express" orbits our outer neighbour planet. While doing this, it is shooting the surface with different optical methods. The main goal of the mission is to create a cartography of the planet. The high resolution stereo camera (HRSC), which was developed from DLR in Berlin, is providing us with pictures which can be processed to a three dimensional map of Mars. How this works, is imparted at the station "Mars in 3D". The young visitors of DLR School Lab create 3D pictures by themselves, make their own 3D glasses with the hands, and watch breathtaking close-ups of the surface of planet Mars.
