Originally conceived for the development of aircraft, wind tunnels are now indispensable in many areas of research: Scientists test and improve the air resistance of cars, the buoyancy of aircraft or the crosswind stability of bridges. But competitive athletes such as skiers also use wind tunnels to determine the optimal aerodynamic position.
