More information

The stomping of the engine, water periodically pressed against the walls by the propeller and the waves of the swell hitting the ship all cause a ship to vibrate. On the one hand, vibrations are perceived as noise, bothering the crew, passengers and marine life. On the other hand, vibrations cause material fatigue by periodic deformation of the parts, which can lead to premature breaking of stressed components. How can you reduce such vibrations or avoid them altogether?

The vibration laboratory offers visitors of all grade levels experiments on oscillations and vibrations. The spectrum ranges from experiments with simple spiral spring vibrations to the measurement of natural vibration frequencies and shapes of mechanical components with accelerometers and laser measuring devices.
