Institute of Systems Engineering for Future Mobility

Credit:DLR (CC-BY 3.0)

The DLR Institute of Systems Engineering for Future Mobility located in Oldenburg is researching methods for developing and assessment of automated and autonomous traffic systems.

The focus is on the development of new efficient methods and tools of systems engineering for the proof of functionality (verification) and practicability (validation) as well as the further development of trustworthy systems. This is a major challenge for future generations of automated and autonomous transport systems.

In its three departments Systems Theory and Design, System Evolution and Operation, and last but not least Application and Evaluation, the institute deals with central questions concerning the technical trustworthiness of integrated control systems up to complete transport systems in the fields of automotive, marine and railway.

Main areas of research

  • Fundamentals, methods, procedures and tools for increasing and guaranteeing the technical trustworthiness of automated and autonomous transport systems
  • Evaluation and certification methods for the approval of automated and autonomous transport systems
  • Implementation of the methods in virtual and physical testbeds
  • Standards and regulations for automated and autonomous transport systems
  • Support of a new lead discipline "Autonomics"
