Developing new materials as well as improving established materials for solar power plants and solar chemical processes is essential for successful projects and their commercial advance. Every process requires custom material development in order to achieve optimal efficiency.
Material scientists at the Institute of Solar Research examine materials for solar fuel production as well as solar energy storage. Another important research topic is the development and improvement of components of solar power plants, e. g. heat transfer fluids and absorber materials which can convert solar radiation in heat. Further, solar chemical processes which degrade pollutants are being investigated.
