Our Mission
About 150 scientists at the Institute of Solar Research are working on a sustainable energy supply. We are carrying out important basic research on the use of solar energy to generate power, heat and fuel. In conjunction with partners in industry and research, we are working on the ongoing development of photovoltaic systems and their components, to make power generation from solar energy more efficient and productive. The Institute operates various special laboratories in Cologne and Stuttgart, a high-flux density solar furnace and a high-flux solar simulator, plus Germany's only solar tower power generator, the Jülich Solar Tower (Solarturm Jülich) test power plant. Our teams also test and optimise high temperature solar technologies in the largest test centre in Europe for concentrated solar technology, at the Plataforma Solar de Almería (Spain).
