Digitalisierung und Informationstechnologie

The department Information Management & Technology develops and maintains the data management, which is of major importance for both the virtual engine and the experiments. Large sets of highly heterogeneous data are generated and hast to be gathered, stored, processed and analyzed in a non-hieratical data management system.

Virtual Engine and Numerical Methods

The department Virtual Engine and Numerical Methods drives the development of new numerical methods to perform calculations of highly loaded aero engine components. Included are scale resolving CFD simulations as well as the development of a multi scale multi physics structuremechanics Code for lifetime determination. These two, together with further DLR own methods, shall be integrated in a platform. The obtained vitual engine is used to determine the life span of a hole aero engine.

Testing and Measurement Techniques

The department Testing and Measurement Techniques not only conducts experiments on novel test stand, but also duplicated the experiments in numerical simulations. The test stands are able to perform test under simultaneous mechanical, thermal and corrosive loads. At the same time the experiments are run as a digital twin to simulate and validate the material behavior while the experiment in running. Metallographical investigations will bring further insights after the experiments.
