Rail transport must become more attractive and must significantly improve its ability to compete for passengers and goods. A higher share of the rail sector in the further increasing transport volume will contribute to the decarbonization of transport.
In order to promote a holistic solution, all rail vehicle activities at DLR are aligned with the vehicle concept of the Next Generation Train, a family of double-deck high-speed trains in lightweight construction. As a contribution to this, we research and develop concepts, methods and technologies that turn the running gears into low wear and mass as well as into highly energy-efficient, comfortable, reliable and digital rail vehicle components. We demonstrate the results e.g. with respect to the mechatronic guidance of independently rotating wheel running gears in virtual simulations and in hardware tests on our test benches.
