DLR – your partner for innovation

Craft industry is increasingly faced with technological challenges such as digitalisation and the associated requirements. However, companies cannot resolve all technical problems on their own. DLR can provide valuable input in this regard.

DLR is an excellent research partner for the craft industry and the ‘supplier’ of concrete and innova-tive solutions. It is our goal to collaborate with the craft industry to develop innovative ideas and, in doing so, make future applications possible – whether as products, services or processes. For us as a research institution, this means making our research findings available for practical implementation by the craft industry.

Here you will find a selection of DLR technologies from the areas of additive manufacturing, fibre composite structures, new materials, simulation and digitalization, robotics, highly automated sys-tems and integrated production.

Aerogels – a versatile material for manufacturing (ZAIT)

Aerogels come in many forms and have potential for a wide range of applications, such as thermal insulation, sound isolation, heat protection or as a filter material for selective gas adsorption. The Helmholtz Innovation Lab Center for Aerogels in Industry and Technology (ZAIT) was founded to promote the more widespread application of this remarkable technology.

FlexIn Heat® - innovative heating method for repair of fibre composite materials

FlexIn Heat® is an innovative heating method that allows heat to be applied flexibly, fast, effectively and precisely to a surface. The technology developed includes an air-cooled induction coil that generates a uniform electromagnetic field, allowing an electrically conductive counterpart to be heated.

GTOM-RADAR - Radar technology for structural analysis of buildings

Radar technology makes it possible to analyse a building’s structures without contact or disruption. As a result, conclusions can be drawn about its structural condition, wall design, layer structure, building damage and defective areas. Even damp areas can be detected.

Practical digitalisation for SMEs - SCIL shows how companies can benefit from a digital twin

Simulation tools like the ‘physics-based digital twin’ are playing an increasingly important role. In order to illustrate the great practical potential, the Systems and Control Innovation Lab (SCIL) demonstrates the productive integration of the digital prototype using the example of a fictional construction crane.

3D printing - Selective laser melting

Selective laser melting (SLM) is an additive manufacturing technology in which a wide variety of metal powders can be combined to create a component. This process enables the production of items that could otherwise not be created using conventional manufacturing technologies – or only with considerable effort.

Integrated wiring harness - Structurally integrated load-bearing conductors

As the number of driver assistance systems, engine control units and complex infotainment systems in the automotive industry increases, the amount of cabling for the various sensors and actuators is also on the rise. The vision – conductors for data communications and power supply integrated into vehicle underbodies.

Helikaler Schallabsorber
