DLR Technology Marketing launches the BMBF-funded project ‘Deep Market Insight’ (DMI)

20 December 2019

Innovations prove successful if resulting technologies become established on the market in the form of products or services and create sustainable solutions for society. However, the success of an innovation depends on more than its technical specifications. Successful innovations ‘fit’ the requirements of a society. They take account not only of the respective economic, legal and political contexts, but also environmental and cultural conditions. Being aware of these influencing factors is crucial to success, particularly when operating in international markets.

In order to boost the innovation process at DLR, in early September 2019 DLR Technology Marketing launched the project ‘Deep Market Insight – developing a new analysis and planning tool for technology transfer in non-university research institutions, with a focus on opening up international markets’. The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The new technology transfer tool for non-university research institutions will be developed, implemented and tested over a three-year project term.

The result will be a ‘smart toolbox’ for the predictive analysis, assessment and support of possible applications for research findings, particularly as they relate to international markets. This toolbox will enable the systematic collection of data on the obstacles and challenges faced by innovative applications in international markets. In addition, it will facilitate the subsequent processing of the resulting information. One particular area of focus here is the identification and analysis of sociocultural factors.

The aim of the project is to further advance the internationalisation of technology transfer for non-university institutions, both in the successful placement of innovations on the international market, and in the generation of new insights from international markets that might be used for potential technology applications..
