An essential prerequisite for the scientific work at the Institute of Technical Thermodynamics is the experimental infrastructure.
At its locations in Stuttgart and Cologne-Porz, the institute has a large number of highly technical experimental facilities, some of which are unique in Europe in this form, the most important of which are presented here.

Electrochemical power engineering - Technical equipment

Starting with work on hydrogen technology in the mid-1980s, the institute has successively developed and expanded its facilities in the field of "electrochemical energy technology". In addition to coating facilities for the production of a wide variety of functional layers, a large number of test and analytical facilities for low- and high-temperature fuel cells have been designed, built and operated. This has recently been supplemented by state-of-the-art analysis and testing facilities for the development of batteries.
