Research at the UAS Competence Center will focus on Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). The planned research areas are as follows:
Safety Critical Testing & Evaluation:
Development and investigation of simulation and flight test scenarios based on the development, production, certification, operation and pilot training in the field of UAS - in close contact with the certification authorities, in particular with the European agency EASA Creation of an assessment capability of safety-critical scenarios within the scope of the certification process up to validation/certification.
Scaled Technology Demonstrators:
In-flight technology validation using scaled technology demonstrators. Real tests in the field of UAS as well as GA/UAM, especially in the field of high automation levels. Investigation and validation of new methods and processes based on UAS for the establishment of new technologies in the GA and UAM research area.
UAS Research Plateau:
Clustering of the DLR inter-institutional UAS research in Cochstedt as an integral part of the UAS Competence Center. Establishment of temporary scientific staff to increase efficiency, especially in the area of interdisciplinary cross-sectional projects and networking/cooperation with partners from industry and research.
