Urban and Residential Technologies

One important aspect related to the decentralisation of our energy systems is finding a way to ensure that heavily-urbanised regions continue to receive reliable energy supplies. Against the background of these issues, the Urban and Residential Technologies Department is working on developing and coupling new and innovative system-relevant individual technologies and components.

Energy Systems Technology

The Energy System Technology Department concentrates on the interaction between system-relevant technologies within decentralised networked structures. At the low-voltage and medium-voltage level in particular we strive to achieve new architectures for the energy systems of the future. In the research groups, we examine flexibility options for design and operation management, compile energy management concepts for sector coupling in the smart home and smart city and investigate new grid technologies and architectures for a stable running of smart grids with a high proportion of renewable energies.

Energy Systems Analysis

Decisions in the energy industry, in energy policy and in energy research have far-reaching and long-term consequences. Being proactive and using foresight means that opportunities offered by new technologies can be identified quickly, minimising any potential negative effects on the environment and society. This type of action is dependent on system analytical knowledge, which we provide across all sectors up to the global level and based on different methods.
