Model experiments and comparison for simulation of pathways to a fully renewable energy supply
Duration: Juli 2015 bis Dezember 2017
Funded by: Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Energie (BMWi)

Project Description: This project aims at the development of a coordinated scenario framework for energy system model analysis. In doing so, all relevant and interested research groups are involved. The expected outcome of the project includes a transparent and comparable description of the energy system models applied, as well as the framework assumptions, scenarios and basic parameters. In order to achieve a higher comparability both within the project and beyond, for all these aspects data tables, model templates and scenario documentation are developed. In the second step, two model experiments are performed, using the models of the project partners, but also of external research groups. By comparing the results of different models, the robustness of conclusions concerning the energy system transformation in Germany can be enhanced, as well as the ability to evaluate scenarios considering selected disruptive developments. The project focuses on the identification of cost-effective technology deployment strategies in the power, heating and transport system on the one hand, and the least-cost infrastructure implementation in the power supply system and its linkages to the heating and transport sector on the other.
