The group “Transforming Automobility” analyses state-of-the-art and cutting-edge technologies in motorized transport and their effects. A main area of our work is the analysis and prognosis of acceptance, market potential, environmental effects, and the use of these technologies. We also investigate their impacts on travel behaviour. Our current research topics are self-driving vehicles, electric mobility, regenerative fuels, sector coupling of energy and transport, as well as cooperative intelligent transport systems. Another focus of our work is the analysis and prognosis of automobility, both nationally and internationally, as well as its effects on energy consumption and emissions. The method spectrum of the group “Transforming Automobility” includes quantitative and qualitative methods and models. This includes user surveys, focus group discussions, expert interviews and workshops or analyse existing travel surveys, and data sources (e.g., Mobility in Germany, German Vehicle Mileage Survey, German Mobility Panel, Transport in Figures).
