Dr. Manfred Peters got the prize „DGM-Pionier“ from Deutsche Gesellschaft für Materialkunde e.V.
18 October 2022
During this year's general meeting of the German Society for Materials Science, the DGM-Tag in Darmstadt, the scientist, researcher and former head of department and deputy head of DLR’s Institute of Materials Research, Dr.-Ing. Manfred Peters, was awarded the prize “DGM Pioneer”. This prize recognizes "the special achievements of a DGM member in the expansion of the DGM expert network within the framework of the activities of the technical committees and working groups, as well as his services to sustainable cooperation between science and industry," as the description of the prize states.
Even years after his retirement, Dr. Peters continues to lead with great commitment the seminar "Titanium and Titanium Alloys", which is well-known among titanium experts and organized annually by the DGM. It is one of the most successful training events of the DGM at all. During his active time at DLR he not only advanced the development of titanium and other alloys and their protective coatings in engines, but also shaped and supported a large number of scientific as well as technical employees in a very warm-hearted and exemplary manner.
The detailed, very appropriate laudation written by Prof. Dr. Christoph Leyens - once a doctoral student himself and a pupil of Dr. Manfred Peters - on the prize awarded at the end of September can be found under
