The DLR Institute of Solar Research advises industrial companies and project development companies on the preparation, implementation and evaluation of their Research and Development Projects.

The staff of the Institute have many years of experience in the field of concentrating solar technology. We carry out analyses and develop solutions for specific challenges in commercial power plants and energy systems. When advising component manufacturers, project developers and power plant operators, we use our in-depth expertise to develop practical solutions for specific tasks.

Our services include

  • Consulting on renewable energy systems, such as feasibility studies in the following areas
  • Implementation and monitoring of experiments at DLR's solar thermal test platform Solar Towers Jülich and at CIEMAT's Plataforma Solar de Almería, Spain
  • Development of components for solar thermal power plants such as receivers, heliostats, collectors
  • Technology selection and evaluation through yield studies for customer specific sites and conditions
  • Optimisation of solar and other renewable energy systems, with storage and as hybrid systems
  • Analysis of the operational behaviour of solar thermal systems and components using simulation studies, e.g. transient behaviour, material loads
  • Development and validation of simulation tools (e.g. EBSILON®Professional Solar Library)
  • Support in the planning, construction and commissioning of solar power plants, also as due diligence partner for innovative power plant projects
