Projects

In calibration projects for ERS-1/2, SIR-C/X-SAR, SRTM, ENVISAT/ASAR, ALOS-1/2 up to on-going missions like TerraSAR-X, TanDEM-X and Sentinel-1A/B, the Microwaves and Radar Institute has built up more than 25 years of expertise in end-to-end SAR system calibration including extended field campaigns and has proven capabilities to manage large and highly complex projects.

Roadmap DLR SAAR Calibration Center
Roadmap for the DLR SAR Calibration Center. To keep up with the growing demand on SAR data product quality, the Institute has consistently developed, operated and maintained accurate reference calibration targets. The letters A to F in the figure above represent the following SAR calibration activities during the commissioning phase of the satellites: A: TerraSAR-X; B: re-calibration of TerraSAR-X; C: TanDEM-X; D: Sentinel-1A; E: Sentinel-1B; and F: Kompsat-6. The letters G to K represent the Institute’s calibration target developments for the respective SAR missions: G: BIOMASS; H: Sentinel-1C; I: Sentinel-1D; J: Tandem-L and K: HRWS. Satellite launches are indicated by triangles.

The relationship between the hardware development and spaceborne SAR missions in which the Calibration Group is significantly involved with SAR system calibration is shown by the road map of the DLR calibration center in the figure above.
