MONITOR – Monitoring System of the Development of Global Aviation
The aim of the MONITOR portal is to support actors with information needs on air transport development, especially for strategic analysis, modeling activities and quantification exercises. In order to allow holistic statements about the air transport development on different spatial levels with regard to society-relevant targets, the professional choice, update and analysis of data is mandatory. For this purpose the project MONITOR has been launched in the framework of the 7th EU Research Programme and is continuously updated after the end of the project by DLR.
The monitoring system consists of the three pillars (meta-) database, indicators and future studies, which allow a systematic and complementary view on the long-term development of air transport on different spatial and societal levels.
1. A detailed meta-database was elaborated, which provides all interested actors detailed information on relevant air transport data but also on important framework data sources. The datasets contain in this context statistics, reports and databases, which can serve to describe, analyse and evaluate the air transport development over the long-term on a global scale.
2. An indicator scheme on system internal measures and measures, which describe the interchanges between air transport and its surroundings, is as well available. This indicator system allows investigating former long-term trends in air transport in a compacted, precise and fast way in order to a come to a conclusion on the most important drivers but also challenges with regard to the air transport sector.
3. The third part of the MONITOR portal is concentrated on the long-term future perspectives of global air transport. The corresponding future studies will include the CONSAVE 2050 Scenarios as well as an overview on relevant other future studies on air transport development and will be expanded continuously.
