Air Freight Model - Analysis and Forecast of Air Freight

8 October 2009

The development of air freight is considered as an early indicator for economic changes; thus, a reliable air traffic forecast is very important for the industry and decision makers in policy. The air freight market is quite different compared to sea freight and freight by ground.
The DLR air freight model allows for the special characteristics of air freight and consists of two levels: a macro and a micro level model that are interconnected via a cargo-routing module. The macro level describes supply and demand as well as the resulting traffic flows. At the micro level, transport units are modelled disaggregated. The search for the best transport connections, their evaluation, and their selection are executed in the cargo-routing module.
