European through and through
DLR’s Brussels office was founded in 1999, very close to the European Parliament. Staff here are tasked with representing DLR’s strategic local interests and contributing the expertise of its research institutes, as well as supporting them in European cooperation within the framework of EU-funded programmes. Since October 2023, DLR researcher Maike Brigitte Neuland has been in Brussels as the point of contact for security and defence research. This was far from the first time she’d packed her bags and moved, as Belgium is the fifth European country she has lived in.
