Sophie Adenot uses the PhysioTool to research how the body reacts to weightlessness
Since arriving on board the Space Station on 14 February 2026 as part of the εpsilon mission, ESA astronaut Sophie Adenot has spent much of her time conducting scientific experiments. This image shows the 'PhysioTool', an experiment by the French space agency CNES. It investigates how the human body and mind adapt to weightlessness in the absence of constant gravity. On Earth, simply standing up activates the cardiovascular system. In weightlessness, this stimulus is absent – the system weakens and the physical performance of astronauts declines.
