                      Expertise

The Institute's diverse research work is based on the key technologies of modelling, optimisation and control. The SR Institute develops new methods and technologies in these areas and implements them using specialised software tools. Many of these tools are made available to the research community in the form of open source or commercial software.

                      Modelling

Together with other partners, the Institute has been developing the modelling language Modelica since 1996. This is supported by many simulation environments, such as Dymola, Maplesim, SimulationX and OpenModelica. Modelica is used in the Institute's research work to create multi-disciplinary models of control systems - from architecture models to detailed system models.

                      AI and Control

One focus of the Institute is the development and implementation of state-of-the-art model-based control methods. These methods use a mathematical model of the system to predict and improve the system behaviour in a targeted manner.

                      Optimisation

The optimisation tools developed at the Institute are integrated into general design, modelling and simulation environments, such as Matlab and Modelica, in a user-friendly way and can be used universally. Real-time capable variants of these tools are also used directly in online control tasks.
