Continuation of the contents of the former Institute of System Dynamics and Control

As part of a realignment of the research structure within DLR, the Institute of System Dynamics and Control was reorganised on 1 January 2025. The aim of this measure is to strengthen cross-institute collaboration, promote synergies and reduce thematic overlaps. Since then, the Institute's specialist focus areas have been continued in close cooperation with thematically neighbouring DLR institutes.

Control Systems

The topic of Control Systems researches novel functions and algorithms, as well as new underlying methods for control design and verification. Examples include functions to reduce gusts and maneuver loads, active flutter suppression, and structural damping to increase passenger comfort.

Flight control and automation

Flight control and automation play a crucial role in modern aviation technology. They contribute significantly to improving the safety, efficiency and performance of aircraft. Innovative technologies are used to optimise complex flight manoeuvres and minimise the risk of malfunctions.Research in this area focuses on the development of new control methods and systems that can be used in both manned and unmanned aircraft.

Modelling

The modelling of cyber-physical systems requires a precise mathematical description. This applies to both the overall system (such as a robot) and the individual components in different domains, such as mechanics for the gearbox or electronics for the motors.

All previous research content, existing co-operations, laboratories and projects will be seamlessly continued.
