APPARILLIO 3 in Morda, Slowakia

Space Situational Awareness (SSA) becomes more and more important. The APPARILLIO® System was developed at the Institute of Technical Physics of the German Aerospace Center to fulfill the requirements of a low-cost sensors for a passive optical SSA network. The APPARILLIO® is an integrated system for monitoring objects in the near-Earth orbit. Equipped with a sensitive, high-resolution astro camera and a wide-angle lens, it detects and measures sun-illuminated objects during twilight down to 30 cm size.
The Institute has developed three of these systems for research purposes. One goal is to test the system in different environments. APPARILLIO 3 has now been successfully transported to Morda, near Bratislava and has performed its first tests successfully.
