After a mission is always before a mission: Habitable Worlds Observatory
Concept for the mission Habitable Worlds Observatory (HWO), which aims to search for traces of life on planets around other stars. The observations will cover a wide range of wavelengths, from infrared and visible to ultraviolet light, to find molecules in the atmosphere that are of biological origin. HWO is NASA's next major astronomy mission after the Nancy-Grace-Roman Telescope, which is due to be launched in 2027. ESA and European organisations are likely to be involved.
