Wind Energy Experiments
The Braunschweig Wind Energy Experiments (WX) facility is a young, growing organisational unit founded as part of the continuation of wind energy research by the German Aerospace Center (DLR).
Through the intended equipment and the multidisciplinary experience of the participating partners, a base for holistic research and further development of wind energy extraction and utilization, which is unique worldwide in this combination, is to be created. This involves developing the research-technical basis instrumentation of the wind turbines and specifying the experimental plant control. Additionally, it includes developing data acquisition for the joint project, setting up measuring devices for wind, turbulence, temperature, and humidity (low-frequency profile and wind field measurements, high-frequency point measurements), establishing acoustic measurement technology, preparing a system for monitoring the production of rotor blades, setting up a Structural Health Monitoring System for damage detection on rotor blades, and preparing for their aerodynamic measurement. Furthermore, it involves establishing a subcomponent test bench for preparing the overall structural tests and the structural evaluation of adhesive layers in rotor blades.
