Press Conference EDEN ISS – Antarctic Greenhouse Mission 2021

DLR and NASA begin new series of tests for plant cultivation on the Moon and Mars: Online press conference with live connection to the EDEN ISS Antarctic greenhouse On Tuesday, 4 May 2021, the international team at the EDEN ISS Antarctic greenhouse will appear in a joint online press conference to kick off a new overwintering mission via YouTube livestream. Until the end of 2021, NASA guest scientist Jess Bunchek will research how astronauts on future Moon and Mars missions could grow vegetables and herbs using as little time and energy as possible. To this end, she will be working at the EDEN ISS Antarctic greenhouse of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) for the next few months, where she will put greenhouse technologies and plant varieties to the test. She is also recording any effects the greenhouse and its yield have on the isolated hibernation crew in the perpetual ice. Bunchek is part of the 10-person overwintering crew on Neumayer Station III, operated by the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI).
