Urban Rescue

Duration: 2020-2024

In the Urban Rescue project, the most diverse aspects of rotorcraft, such as the eVTOL configuration, are being investigated for airborne urban rescue operations.

The participating departments of the Institute of Structures and Design in Stuttgart are Component Design and Manufacturing Technologies and Structural Integrity, and at the Augsburg site the Department of Automation and Quality Assurance in Production Technology, which is also the Augsburg Centre for Lightweight Production Technology.

Together they are taking an interdisciplinary look at the structural design of these eVTOL configurations. In the Urban Rescue project, a special focus is placed on the floor assembly. This is being developed cooperatively under continuous interdisciplinary exchange and built up to a testable demonstrator. In addition to the classic structural design, the crash calculation and the consideration of manufacturing and production aspects are also included in the design phase and analysed. The aim of linking design, crash calculation and production is to develop an underbody that combines an optimised structural design with innovative production processes.
