DLR delegation visits aerospace facilities in Singapore
- A DLR delegation visited aerospace facilities in Singapore, including ATMRI and OSTIn, from 21 to 23 November 2023.
- They participated in a workshop on "Air & Space Traffic Integration" and discussed the integration of spacecraft into the air transport system.
- Current research and projects such as SpaceTracks and the European ECHO-2 project were presented, which concern the integration of rocket launches into the air traffic system.
From 21 to 23 November 2023, a delegation from the DLR Institute of Flight Guidance visited the ATM Research Institute (ATMRI) of Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and the Office for Space Technology & Industry (OSTIn) in Singapore.
Prof Dr Dirk Kügler, Head of the Institute of Flight Guidance, Sven Kaltenhäuser, Head of the ATM Simulation department, and the scientists Tobias Rabus and Oliver Pohling first took part in a workshop on the topic of "Air & Space Traffic Integration", which was prepared jointly by NTU (ATMRI) and DLR (Institute of Flight Guidance). At the workshop, the participants from NTU and DLR reported on the objectives and current status of their work in the field of integrating spacecraft into the existing air traffic system. Dr Thorsten Clausing (Science and Technology Officer) from the German Embassy in Singapore took part in the event and gave a brief welcome address.
In the following days, various working meetings took place between ATMRI and the DLR institute. In addition, the DLR delegation visited the Singapore OSTIn space agency together with representatives from NTU. In particular, the content of the institute's ongoing work in the field of integrating rocket launches into the air transport system was presented. Among other things, the researchers introduced the SpaceTracks project, in which a Launch Coordination Centre is being set up, and presented DLR's participation in the SESAR project ECHO-2, in which systems and functions of a "SpaceDesk" are being developed at the EUROCONTROL Network Management and Operation Centre in Brussels.
