AirTOP

AirTOP is a model for simulating aircraft movements. This tool covers all processes in the air (gate-to-gate) and thus enables the interaction between several airports to be examined right down to global interplay.

The functions and possibilities of the simulation model are designed for today's air transport system and its medium-term development. A major area of progress compared to previous models is the option to also communicate with the tool via interfaces during the simulation.

Research Areas

At the Institute of Flight Guidance, AirTOP is for example used to examine new aircraft technologies in terms of the resulting environmental impact or to evaluate a pre-tactical planning system at a fictitious airport.

The large field of application of the model is also reflected by the DLR projects which examine and evaluate in the en-route area the influence of large-scale flight route changes due to volcanic ash clouds or general climate changes.
