Its research focuses on the design and development of new techniques and systems for Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and the associated sensor-specific applications. The Institute’s remit includes the implementation of long-term research programs in airborne and satellite-based remote sensing, traffic management, and reconnaissance and security. As part of the German space program, the institute works closely with the German Space Administration at the DLR in Bonn, the European Space Agency (ESA), German industry and the relevant ministries. Training young scientists through internships, undergraduate theses and doctoral research is an important part of the institute’s remit.
