With great pleasure we would like to inform you that our colleague Arun Babu defended his doctoral thesis with “magna cum laude“ at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg on November 11, 2025.
The title of his dissertation is "Condition Monitoring of Road Traffic Infrastructure by Using Synthetic Aperture Radar".
It demonstrates for the first time that road surface roughness can be measured with sub-millimeter accuracy using air- and spaceborne SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar). Arun Babu’s work makes an important contribution to future wide-area and cost-efficient road condition monitoring using SAR systems.
