In Jülich, DLR op­er­ates a large-scale re­search fa­cil­i­ty for so­lar ir­ra­di­a­tion tests that is unique in Eu­rope. Here, DLR re­searchers work to­geth­er with in­dus­tri­al com­pa­nies to test and de­vel­op com­po­nents and sys­tems for com­mer­cial so­lar ther­mal pow­er plants. The aim is to make so­lar ther­mal pow­er plants more ef­fi­cient and thus more cost-ef­fec­tive. DLR is al­so test­ing pro­cess­es here for split­ting wa­ter us­ing so­lar pow­er, for the pro­duc­tion of so­lar fu­els and for the use of so­lar heat in in­dus­tri­al pro­cess­es.
