Aircraft Interiors EXPO (AIX) 2026

We’ll be showcasing these exhibits in Hamburg and look forward to welcoming lots of visitors, having stimulating conversations and establishing new collaborations!

Disruptive cabin: DISKUS (scale 1:10)

The disruptive concept from the DISKUS research project (Disruptive Cabin for an Environmentally Friendly Air Transport System) demonstrates new forms of systems-, seat- and cabin-integration designed to reduce weight, complexity and material consumption. Key features include an innovative air conditioning system architecture and textile seats suspended from the ceiling structure, which we have developed in collaboration with our partners to ensure maximum recyclability and create new spatial qualities.

This is a collaboration with Diehl Aviation, Diehl Aerospace, CompriseTec, Ohm University of Applied Sciences Nuremberg, Odego, Technical Universiy of Hamburg and Auto Flug – funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) under LuFo VI-3.

Immersive Cabin Lab

Real-time co-design – for user-centred cabin solutions. In the immersive virtual reality lab, interested visitors can step into the front section of a virtual cabin environment to experience first-hand the user-centred and collaborative design methodologies developed at DLR.

Interested visitors can create and virtually test the design themselves in real time with the support of experts - thanks to a modular toolkit consisting of virtual seat and table models.

This represents only a small part of a larger collaborative development approach we developed for designing and integrating the cabin and its systems. The VR application is part of the ARCADIA (Automated and Reconfigurable Cabin Development Process in Aircraft design) research project.
