The DLR's systems analysis accompanied the political development in the early 2000s with numerous studies on the use of renewable energies in the energy supply system – often directly commissioned by various federal ministries. Even back then, it was evident: the actual expansion targets for renewable energies often exceeded the forecasts presented by researchers, as this example from 2008 illustrates.
