The Strömungsmechanische Arbeitsgemeinschaft STAB in the Deutschen Gesellschaft für Luft- und Raumfahrt - Lilienthal-Oberth e. V. aims to honour outstanding achievements in the field of fluid mechanics every two years by awarding the STAB Prize, thereby also promoting research and development in this field.

The STAB Prize 2024 was awarded at the 24th DGLR Symposium in Regensburg. Prof. Dr. M. Raffel, Dr. Johannes Braukmann, Dr. Christian Wolf (all DLR Göttingen), Dr. Christian Willert (DLR Köln) and Luca Giuseppini (Politecnico di Milano) received the award in recognition of their work on "In-Line Particle Image Velocimetry".

STAB Prize 2026

The STAB Prize is endowed with 5,000 euros and will be presented to the prizewinner at the STAB Symposium in Aachen in October 2026.

The STAB Prize may be awarded to scientists and development engineers from Germany. It recognizes new and pioneering research and development results as well as contributions to their implementation, rather than the lifetime achievement of a scientist. Eligible works include experimental, numerical and theoretical research as well as its implementation in technical applications. Applications can be submitted by individuals or working groups to the STAB office (stab[at]DLR.de).

The application deadline is 22 June 2026.

Eligible for nomination are:

  • Option 1: One or more publications in international peer-reviewed journals.
  • Option 2: Significant contributions to the implementation of research and development results in new products, services or processes.

Details regarding the application process, required documents and selection procedure can be found in the official  STAB Prize call below.
