Bavarian Minister of State Bernreiter visits DLR Transport Research

Christian Bernreiter, Bavarian Minister of State for Housing, Building and Transport, visited the German Aerospace Center (DLR) on 30 April 2026. The focus was on DLR transport research technologies and projects. They help to strengthen the German automotive and rail industries and thus future-proof the location. Among other things, the DLR researchers showed the Minister of State a near-series concept for a zero-emission vehicle: not only is its drive system emission-free, it also produces no tyre abrasion. This is a decisive step towards implementing the Euro 7 emissions standard. Another topic was work in the field of chassis and control technology. DLR has set up the FuN research platform for rail transport. Here, bogies with mechatronic track guidance can be tested on a full-scale and compact single-wheel bogies can be developed for pioneering train concepts. They can help to make railway operations more efficient and lead to less wear and noise. Bavaria's Transport Minister Christian Bernreiter said after his visit: "Bavaria is a world-class high-tech location! The German Aerospace Centre in particular is a pioneer when it comes to the innovative transport technology of tomorrow and beyond. As a Free State, we want to maintain and expand our leading global role. That is why it is all the more important that such research is carried out at the highest level here."
