NGT - Mechanical train concept architectures

The mechanical train concept architecture and the type of carriage (single-deck or double-deck) have a significant influence on the achievable lightweight construction potential, the passenger flow and the drive concept of the overall train and the main assemblies.

For this reason, a methodological approach developed in the "Vehicle architectures and lightweight design concepts" research field is being used. Using this method, the lightweight construction potential of almost any mechanical train architecture can be systematically analysed and compared right at the start of the train design process. This results in the tensile concept with the greatest lightweight design potential, taking into account the framework conditions. The results of the methodical investigation can be used as a basis for the design of a train or a carriage.
