Technology Cost and Assessment Database – TECA-DB

The Technology Cost and Assessment Database (TECA-DB) was developed by the DLR Institute of Vehicle Concepts to provide transparency of information on vehicle technologies and availability to the public at large through a web-based application.

The TECA-DB thus provides an analysis of the effects of different efficiency technologies on the future vehicle concept. The focus is on a comparison of cost and efficiency potentials for different vehicles.

The aim is to provide answers for the following questions:

  • How to achieve a reduction in CO2 and other greenhouse gas emissions in the transport sector?
  • What can be done to increase energy efficiency in today's vehicles? What will be possible in the future?
  • How high are the costs which a reduction in greenhouse gases entails? How will costs evolve in the future?
  • What technologies can be combined to exploit further emission reduction potentials?

Extensive analyses of scientific studies were carried out to answer these questions and the information that they provided was edited in the TECA-DB. If sufficient data sources validated on a qualitative level are available, the TECA-DB can provide a definition of a vehicle technology while adding cost and efficiency values on an automated basis. Different future technologies can be consolidated into packages.

The TECA-DB web interface enables a contemporary, conventional vehicle to be compared with a vehicle which uses new types of technologies to reduce consumption and increase efficiency. A whole range of different vehicles, packages and innovative technologies can thus be compared based on current research findings.
