Drone Challenge Brunswick invites to symposium

- Drones for civil protection: The Drone Challenge Brunswick brings together students and start-ups.
- The challenge kicks off with a symposium on November 5, 2026, at DLR in Braunschweig.
How can drones and supporting technologies contribute to civil protection in the future? This is the question at the heart of the Drone Challenge Brunswick:
Students and start-ups from across Germany are invited to work together in interdisciplinary teams to develop innovative solutions to real-world challenges in civil security research. These include flight guidance systems, sensor technology, information processing, situational awareness and communication solutions. The resulting concepts and prototypes will then be tested and presented in a competition featuring practical challenges. Cash prizes of €50,000 for first place, €30,000 for second place and €10,000 for third place will be awarded.
The Drone Challenge Brunswick kicks off with a symposium at the DLR site in Braunschweig. It offers those interested an opportunity to exchange ideas with experts from research and industry, as well as representatives of public authorities and emergency response organisations.
The symposium offers a varied programme:
- Presentation of the competition tasks and rules
- Expert talks on drone technologies and civil security applications
- Live demonstration in the DLR drone cage
- Discussions with experts
- Networking and opportunities to form teams for the challenge
Participation is limited to 100 people. Early registration is therefore recommended.
The Drone Challenge Brunswick is jointly organised by the German Aerospace Center (DLR), represented by the DLR Institute of Flight Guidance and the DLR Institute of Flight Systems, the Volkswagen Foundation and the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture (MWK).
