Validation and Certification
A timely specification of an aircraft’s required capabilities is paramount to ensure the fulfillment of their specific tasks and flight safety. These requirements are subsequently assessed in the frame of validation and certification, a process which can be supported by technical analyses, simulations and also simulator, rig and flight tests. The Institute of Flight Systems covers these topics in the frame of both, research on the one hand and knowledge transfer and advice for governmental bodies like the EASA, the Federal Aviation Office, the German Military Aviation Authority, the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support and other authorities on the other hand.
Topics like artificial intelligence, multicore processors and integrated modular avionics continuously lead to new challenges in terms of flight safety regulations. In this context the institute makes a significant contribution to shape the world of certification for manned and unmanned aircraft by an active engagement in national and international working groups and research about new certification methods.
