Support and evaluation of military flight tests

Due to its high complexity, flight testing is a supreme discipline in aviation. Flight tests can be performed for different reasons, for example, to provide evidence for flight safety (certification), the fulfilment of contractual requirements (qualification), testing for optimum procedures, determination of technical mechanical parameters as well as checks for potential system deficiencies.

The Institute of Flight Systems supports military flight tests at the test airbase in Manching and other sites throughout Europe in close cooperation with the German Bundeswehr. Depending on the tests the support can range from the test cards, test plans and implementation plans to active participation in the tests, for example, by providing measurement equipment or monitoring technical parameters in a telemetry station, expert monitoring of the briefing and debriefing up to data analysis including measurement analysis and evaluation of the results based on specifications.

The joint preparation of flight tests with the German Bundeswehr is a core element of the cooperation
The interaction between employees of the Institute of Flight Systems and Bundeswehr crew members combines academic and aviation expertise.
