Ground and Flight Tests, System Identification
The Institute of Flight Systems conducts application-oriented and practical research. The provision of extensive measuring and testing facilities enables experimental research. New methods and numerical procedures are validated and technology is demonstrated right through to flight testing. The Institute operates extensive unmanned aerial vehicles for technology research as well as for civil and military applications. In the field of rotorcraft, the Institute operates a rotor test rig and provides the test technology for various research helicopters. All DLR research aircraft are modified for specific flight tests. The Institute uses system identification procedures as an established tool to optimise numerical models. The Institute is also involved in the field of wind energy at DLR’s research platform WiValdi. The measurement and data technology used is specifically adapted to the respective test facilities for all fields of application.
